STEAM for Tweens-Extracting Strawberry DNA

  • Dowagiac District Library 211 Commercial St. Dowagiac, MI 49047 USA (map)

Children ages 8-12 are invited to join STEAM for Tweens, a new science program designed to engage young minds to think like a scientist. STEAM  for Tweens will meet at 4 pm in the Pokagon Room on the second level of the library.

Extracting DNACells are the basic unit of life and make up all plants, animals and bacteria. Deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, is the molecule that controls everything that happens in the cell. DNA contains instructions that direct the activities of cells and, ultimately, the body. This activity will demonstrate how DNA can be isolated from a strawberry using common household materials.  Come to this STEAM for Tweens activity to demonstrate how DNA can be isolated from a strawberry using common household materials.

Join us for this STEAM for TWEENS activity to build a miniature version of this medieval catapult-like device.

Space is limited, so please register by September 1 by calling (269) 782-3826 or email (att: Pam) at dowagiaclibrarystaff@gmail.com or fill out the form below
