Please join us on Saturday, August 9 at Riverside Cemetery Cemetery for a cleaning and preservation workshop. Professor Thomas Henthorn and students of the University of Michigan-Flint’s cemetery preservation program, will provide participants hands-on instruction in proper cleaning of these historic monuments.
Please note that there are no onsite restrooms nor seating. Participants are welcome to bring a portable chair.
Dr. Henthorn is the Wyatt Endowed Professor of Public History and director of the Preservation Studies Minor at the University of Michigan-Flint. In addition to conducting research and teaching projects at Michigan cemeteries, Dr. Henthorn sits on the board of Flint's two oldest cemeteries. He was recently recognized for his cemetery preservation projects with the Michigan Historic Preservation Network "Citizen's Award." He and his students conduct workshops across the state of Michigan so communities like ours can learn how to preserve our historic burial places.
Space is limited for hands on cleaning so registration is required if you choose to participate. If you would like to just observe, you do not need to register. To register or for more information, email erin@dowagiacdl.org, call 269-782-3826, or fill out the form below.
